Because Black Makes Me Happy

One of my Instagram followers told me the other day that I “wear too much black” and that I should “try some color.” After I finished rolling my eyes SUPER hard at the unsolicited styling advice, I thought to myself, “What the hell does ‘too much black’ mean? Because clearly there’s no such thing.” It’s in the Bible. “Thou shalt always wear as much black as possible.” (You can find it in the new revised Blake Von D version…in case you’re not sure where to look. lol.) But no seriously. I love the color black. It has been my favorite color since I was a little girl. I can recall many-a playground spats with other tiny tots when they would ask me my favorite color and then—appalled at my answer—inform me that I was “not allowed to choose black” because it’s “not really a color.” I firmly stood my ground then—even at 4 or 5—and not much has changed. Yes, I wear a lot of black. Why? Because I like love the color. But mainly because…I WANT TO!
That said, you would think that as much as I love to wear black (I promise I’m not in mourning) that I would own a black clutch. But until recently, I didn’t. So when the folks over at Wink & Winn reached out to me and offered me the opportunity to design my own handbag (I actually ended up designing 3 of them), I knew that an all black clutch was definitely on the menu. The design process was really straightforward. You simply choose the style of bag you want, drag and drop the materials to the section of the bag where you want them to appear and BOOM…you’re done. You can customize the color, hardware, patterns and even monogram your bag.
For this bag, I wanted all black but still wanted a bit of visual interest. So I opted to use black suede, lizard skin, and smooth leather. I was a little nervous about how it all would look together, because let’s be clear, I am nobody’s designer. But when I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised. I LOVE IT! The materials work great together and are super high quality. I also love that there’s lots of storage. Each flap has it’s own storage area (There’s levels to this!) and there’s even a shoulder strap so you can wear it as a crossbody. Don’t be surprised if you see this bag all the time. I apologize in advance.
