One of the biggest misconceptions I had as a kid is that I would “grow up” and my life would be completely together and make all the sense in the world. I’d have my dream job, dream guy, a beautiful apartment and money would be this thing that I just had and didn’t really have to think about that much. Boy, was that little girl so lost in the sauce! Lol.
I’ll be the first to admit that, even though I’m grown by most people’s standards (although not always by my own), I am not even close to having it all together. I’m still figuring out my life, impact and, in a lot of ways, forging my own path. Just making it up as I go. Most of us are. Which is why when Bar III reached out to me about being a part of the #SettingtheBar campaign—a campaign focused on Millennials who are going about life and their respective careers just a little differently and setting new standards for success—I was both confused and flattered. Confused because, like I said, I don’t have it all together and some days it’s hard for me to imagine that my life is in any way inspiring. Flattered because I realize there is, in fact, inspiration in shunning the expectations of our friends, family, society, etc. and simply doing what makes you happy. I don’t often think of it as something brave and bold that I’m doing, but rather just something I’m doing. Something I have to do or else I’ll be crushed under the weight of what everyone else thinks I should do. So, needless to say, I am extremely honored to be a part of the campaign and happy to be able to share my story of how I’m #SettingtheBar through my personal style and career choices.
For 3 months, I’ll be sharing looks from Bar III’s collection and sharing with you all my little nuggets of wisdom about being a millennial on the go. This look—a simple black shift dress, sleeveless blazer and a punch of pattern—really sums up my style. Simple and relatable with a slight edge. Can’t wait to show you guys what else I have picked out!
