RiRi Taught Me
Ever have one of those week where everything that could possibly go wrong goes horribly, horribly wrong? That was the kind of week I had last week. I felt like Alexander in the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. (Please tell me you’ve read that book!) I lost out on the apartment of my dreams, my Coachella plans went up in flames, I got caught in a terrible sandstorm at the beach, and USPS lost a package I’d been waiting weeks for.
When I tell you I was done, I was just done. Pass me a bowl of ice cream and the remote, because I’ve reached my limit.
But on Monday, something amazing happened. The sun came out—literally and figuratively—and things got better! The apartment ended up being mine after all, my Coachella plans were still cancelled but I didn’t really care, it was 75° in Chicago, and I got to wear this really cute outfit!

I really didn’t have any plans or a special reason to wear this outfit other than wanting to do something small to pick my spirits up. I’m a firm believer in the fact that when you look good you feel good…and if you don’t feel good, looking good will at least make you feel better. In law school, I was the girl who always took her final exams in a cute outfit and a light beat. It helped me to feel like I was ready to take on the Constitutional Law. Even if I totally was NOT ready.
This outfit really helped me feel like I was ready to tackle my day and a new week. It’s so Rihanna-esque and so I found myself thinking, “What would Rihanna do?” O, Rihanna would slay her day! Period.
So, let’s get into the details.
This black circle bag is from the wonderful folks over at Clove & Revel. They have so many cute bags (especially this structured bag), so I’m sure you’ll see me rocking a few more of their pieces.
You probably won’t believe me when I tell you this, but this denim jacket was only $8 at Marshalls! I know, I couldn’t believe it myself. I was running errands one day and had a little time to burn between my next appointment and so I decided to swing by Marshalls. I wasn’t really planning to buy anything, I just wanted to look around. But when I saw this jacket at that price, I just couldn’t leave it there. Glad I didn’t.
Absolutely in love with these gold framed aviators from Glasses USA. Expect to see them a LOT. Idc! Idc! Idc!
Because it’s literally impossible not to feel like a girl boss in a pair of thigh high boots, it was only right that I complete this look with a pair. It took me forever to find a pair that would stay up on my chicken thin legs and now that I’ve finally found a pair, you’re basically going to have to pry them off of my cold dead body.
What I’m Wearing:
Jessica Simpson Denim Jacket c/o Marshalls | Satin Skort – Bebe (similar) | OTK Boots – AKIRA (similar) | Circle Bag c/o Clove & Revel
