New Beginnings

One of the toughest things about being an artist or, in my case, a self-proclaimed “creative type” is the fact that you almost never see your work the way others see it. I’m constantly looking at my work and thinking, “This could be SO much better.” I’m always looking at the people and bloggers that I admire and challenging myself to keep up. Because of my never ending dissatisfaction, I recently decided that I wanted to take my blog and social media photography in a different direction. So a few months ago I started doing some research and trying to find the perfect photographer to bring my vision to life. Enter Whitney!
I met with her at a local coffee shop to discuss my vision and how I felt that my content has grown stall. One of the first things she said to me was, “I’m shocked that you feel that way. I love your content!” Again…that whole “not seeing what others see” thing. But I guess that’s the difference between great “artist” and a just “okay” one. The greats are pushing themselves to new heights. So this shoot marks the start of what I’m hoping will be something new and refreshing.
Featured is a custom dress provided to me by my friends over at Bow & Drape. You might remember another piece I wore from them earlier in the summer. My content isn’t the only thing I’m constantly revamping. So is my wardrobe. What I like about this dress is that it’s a little girlier and “cutesy” than I’m used to, but I felt that it was time that I add a little variety to my usual edgy attire. I’ll never not be the “edgy girl” in the room, but why not have a little range? I paired it with an all white handbag I custom designed with Wink & Winn. I featured another bag I designed with them earlier in the year. I added in a little pattern and color play with a pair of floral print heels and an olive army jacket. I couldn’t completely stay away from the edge factor.

Love this outfit! And you’re right…the army jacket does give it that edge factor. Perfect brunch date ensemble. As far as blogging goes, we all tend to be a little over critical when it comes to production + execution. What I’ve learned over the years is as long as you are consistently striving towards quality, you have nothing to worry about. There really is enough room for all of us to be great in our own way. Those who often struggle the most are the ones who fail to be authentic and that is really what it’s all about. Keep nurturing your brand and you will continue to see beautiful growth and will attract people who fully support whatever vision you’re going for. Looking forward to everything in store!

You look gorgeous as usual and I understand where you’re coming from as far as the “how can I be better?” factor. I struggle with constantly trying to up my game even though sometimes I lack the means to do so.What has helped me with blogging and wanting to upgrade myself is learning how to pace myself and give myself time to grow before getting frustrated.

I think that’s a constant inner struggle for most bloggers, artists and creative types like yourself: how can I be better? But it’s those kind of struggles that help you evolve & become great at what you do. It’s great that you’ve found someone who understands your vision because that isn’t easy to come by these days!
