Mix It Up, Mix It Up

Someone recently said to me, “You do a great job of mixing patterns and textures.” I’d never really thought about, but the more I did the more I started to see why they might feel that way. As of late, I’m really drawn to pairing unconventional things together. And even though I’ve been trying to move my style in a more neutral, polished direction lately, I still find myself using a lot of patterns and textures. Although, I have to admit, I’m not sure it comes from a place of fashion genius, so much as a limited wardrobe and boredom. Lol. It’s not unusual to find me in my bedroom on a Saturday night trying on different things in my closet to see what new combinations I can come up with because I’m bored with my usual combos. And often by accident—putting one thing on and preparing to take another off—I’ll catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and go, “Wait! I really like this!”
There’s just a taste of that happening with this outfit. Two types of plaid and cow print?! Really, Blake? Yep! Lol. I think it works because the rest of the outfit is so neutral which leaves a little room to play around. But even in my neutral pieces, I still incorporate texture. My bag is quilted, my top is mesh and my hat, wool with a hint of smooth leather. Sounds like a lot, but I don’t mind it.
