Making the Connection

Since graduating law school, I’ve really been on a mission to infuse more sophisticated pieces into my wardrobe. But in a way that still feels very “me” and that doesn’t age me unnecessarily. Typically, overalls are regarded as child’s play and aren’t considered appropriate on a woman who wants to be taken seriously. (I’m not sure I agree). But that said, what I love about these overalls from French Connection is how they’re a perfect blend of childhood memories and adult sophistication.
I remember being a kid and wanting a pair of overalls so badly, like all the “big kids”—mainly because I wanted to wear them with one shoulder strap off like I’d seen on the members of my favorite girl group, TLC. My grandmother finally gave in and bought me a pair, but she was having NONE of that “half-dressed nonsense,” as she called it. She demanded that I keep both straps in their proper place. Just sucked all the fun right out of my big girl dreams. lol. Well, luckily there’s no one around to suck the fun out of these. I can wear them however I want …which is exactly what I did.
Because I knew I wanted to go with a black palette, I decided I wanted to add as much texture to the outfit as I could. So, I paired the overalls with sheer & floral lace top and a fur vest. It’s perfect for a holiday office party (and on sale for 40%)!
…if only I got invited to those kinds of things. Lol.
