Long Time No See
Wow! It’s been a minute! While I didn’t plan on taking this long of a break—actually the longest break I’ve taken in 11 years—it’s also been a welcomed one. Because life comes at you fast! And if that’s true about life in general, 2020 has been coming at us all at warp speed!
My last blog post was in February and just a few weeks before the coronavirus and a global pandemic became our reality. Since then we’ve all been confined to our homes and wearing masks in public. It’s a reality none of us saw coming and if I’m being totally honest, completely shook me to my core. The uncertainty of work and my health was not something I was at all prepared to handle. So, after the initial panic, I just sort of put my head down and focused on staying as sane and healthy as possible. Blogging wasn’t really on my radar, because I was constantly so worried about everything else. Thank goodness for the Therapy for Black Girls website where I was able to find a therapist offering virtual sessions. Because those weekly telehealth sessions were the only thing that got me through a lot of days.

But the second the covid-induced anxiety started to ease up, we all found ourselves in the middle of a civil rights one. It’s a much needed national awakening, but for many of Black people it brought on a lot of emotions—both good and bad. So again, I put my head down and just focused on getting through it all and processing my emotions in a healthy manner. And before I looked up…it was July.
So here we are about halfway through the year and it feels like I can finally—but cautiously—come up for air.
What I’m Wearing:
I’ve had some wins and losses in personal life over the past few months and while the losses don’t feel worth talking about (compared to the news cycle), I don’t exactly feel good about celebrating the wins either. Again…given the news cycle. But I’ve been trying to give myself permission to experience joy, even in the face of all the terrible news. And the biggest piece of joy and news I have to celebrate is my upcoming fashion collection with Amazon the Drop!
