“I Go Back to That Park”

If you know me, you know I’m not a cardholding member of the Bey Hive…and I have no intentions of ever becoming one. But even I have to admit, when it comes to marketing, Beyonce certainly has a way of making you wonder just what she’s up to and what’s coming next. Her newest endeavor—her co-created clothing line, Ivy Park—is no exception. I knew the moment the release date was announced that stans all over the country would be lined up around the block to get their hands on a piece. I, on the other hand, planned to stay home and watch all of the eye gouging and hair pulling from the comfort of my couch. It’s all much more entertaining from the sidelines. Lol.
That said, a few nights before the release, I couldn’t help but get caught up in the frenzy as every social media page in the world was teasing the debut. When I saw one of the many pages announce that she had released images of the line, I decided it wouldn’t hurt to take a peek. Most of what I saw was just the screenprinted tees, tanks and bodysuits we’d already seen in the video release. #ehkeepscrolling. But then…it happened. This white mesh bomber jacket scrolled into my line of vision. I thought, “Now, wait a second, I might be able to get with this.” A few days before I’d received an invite from Topshop to attend an early preview of the collection, but had not yet RSVP’d. That jacket prompted me to do so. I’d at least go see it in person. Again, it wouldn’t hurt.
Fast forward a few days later and there I was at Topshop hanging out with my friend, Thida, and sipping champagne. Of course, I beelined right for the jacket…because…well…that’s what I came for. Two things sold me on the purchase: 1) The honeycomb print. I mean, COME ON…that’s brilliant branding and designing if I ever saw it! The IP junkie in me just could not get enough! And 2) the fact that it came in an XXS. (It doesn’t take much to make me happy). So, here I am, “at that park”…for the first time and loving it.
