HAPPY NEW YEAR’S
Ok…so although I didn’t officially make any new year’s resolutions, I decided that my word of the year would be ACCEPTANCE. I find that I am my biggest critic. I’m critical of myself to an unhealthy level sometimes. But the good thing about that is 1) I recognize that and 2) it forces me to push myself. However, I saw a quote the other day that really struck a cord with me. It was “Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.” It doesn’t get any more real than that! I happen to go to school with a group of very…umm, let’s just say…fortunate individuals. It’s easy to look at the person who you think has everything that you want, and envy that person. But if there’s one thing that I’ve learned in four years of college is that…everything is not always what it seems. You see that girl or guy with the BMW, the 2 parent household, and the flyest wardrobe you’ve ever seen and think to yourself, “Damn, he/she is lucky!” But then when you really get to know them you find out they’re just as screwed up as everybody else. Their car is one check away from being repo’d, mom & dad don’t sleep in the same room anymore…not to mention the 7 year old brother they have who doesn’t have the same mother even though their parents have been married 25 years, and they buy their “fly” clothes from the same place you buy yours–ANYWHERE INEXPENSIVE! lolSo like I said, this year is about acceptance. This year is a big year for me. I’m graduating from college and OFFICIALLY stepping out into the real world. I figured it’s time that I accept the things in my life that I can not change and just be happy with me! Now don’t get me wrong…that doesn’t mean I don’t dream of living the high life. Hell, I’ve already planned a wedding fit for royalty and started decorating a house the size of a small island (all in my head of course). Doesn’t everyone do that?…lol. But in the mean time I’m gonna be happy with the way that things are in their present state. Wish me luck!
