Glamping 101
I recently teamed up with Glamping Hub, the ultimate online destination for unique outdoor accomodations, for a glamping trip to Rocky Comfort Cabins with my good friend and fellow blogger, Dayna Bolden. (Go check out her blog!) She flew to Chicago from Baltimore and took a 5.5 hour road trip to a cabin resort Southern Illinois.
The 2-day getaway was a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of life in the city. We got to relax in relax in the hot tub, spend some time in nature and then curl up on the couch and watch the most extension cable service I think I’ve ever seen in my life.
Let’s recap the trip…starting with the drive!
Living in Chicago, I don’t drive very much. So, having the new Mazda CX-9 for the week was such an amazing treat. Seriously, this car is amazing. Beautiful inside and out with amazing features. My favorite feature was the “Heads Up” function. It—seemingly with magic—displays all of the cars function in the windshield and keeps you from having to look down and around the car while you’re driving. My speed, navigation, gas tank monitor, etc. were all right in front of me.
I felt pretty fancy driving this baby. So, if you’re looking to surprise me with a really awesome gift, I’ll take a new Mazda CX-9…in black, please.
The Glamping Hub location I picked out was a really unique cabin located in Makanda, Illinois. The cabin was a cute little “Hobbit House” modeled after Lord of the Rings. The moment I saw that big round yellow door, I was sold. I’d never seen anything like it and I was dying to stay there.
Inside the cabin was just as cute as the outside. It had this great home away from home feel and reminded me of everything you love about visiting close friends or family.
There was a full kitchen, a huge comfortable bed, a cozy and REAL fireplace in the living room and a relaxing hot tub out back.
I’ll admit, having no internet and very little phone service really put my sanity to the test. I literally sleep with my phone in bed with me because I can’t stand to be separated from it, so not having the ability to check Instagram or send a text whenever I wanted, nearly drove me off the deep end and sent me running back to Chicago.
So rather than spend the day holding our phones over our heads trying to phone home, I suggested we go zip lining. The facility at Shawnee Bluffs Canopy Tour was only about an 8 minute drive from our cabin so we really didn’t have an excuse not to try it.
I’m secretly a bit of a bit of an adrenaline junkie so this was right up my alley.
We got to zip across 8 different lines—each one longer, higher and faster than the last. Much like snowmobiling in Finland, I was kind of a natural at it…if I do say so myself. lol. It’s definitely something I want to try again in the future. Maybe over water next time???
It wouldn’t be glamping if there wasn’t some glamour.
I took some time to explore the beautiful landscape and snap some pictures in this whimsical maxi dress from Tommy Hilfiger.
Special thanks to Mazda, DriveShop USA, Glamping Hub and Rocky Comfort Cabins for this amazing and relaxing girls’ getaway. If you’re looking for a secluded place to enjoy nature, check out these listing from Glamping Hub.
