My Very First Red Lip

Dear A$AP Rocky: YOU WERE WRONG!

The perfect red lip is all of the rage these days. However, too often, darker skinned women are told to steer clear of the bold trend on the grounds that we “just don’t look right.”

I’d personally never rocked a red lip, because a) I’m not much of a makeup girl and b) because I’m not much a makeup girl, I wasn’t much up for the task of finding the perfect shade for my skin tone. It just seemed like too important of a job… one I was not well-versed enough to perform well. Something about choosing one with the right undertones? Idk. See what I mean? I’m the wrong person to ask. Lol. Smh. I’d actually had several brands send me different shades of red lipstick in the past and I always tucked them away for the day I finally figured out what the heck I was doing. Well, no better time than the present!

This particular shade is “Fire Engine” from Bee Cosmetics. What I like about it is that it’s a gloss—as opposed to a lipstick. That means it’s easy to apply for amateurs like me who haven’t yet figured out the whole “coordinating lipliner” thing and gives me the shine I like. (I’ll get around to figuring out the whole matte thing eventually.) It lasted for hours without me having to reapply it and it doesn’t give you that “thick and sticky” feeling. I haven’t put very many lipsticks to the test, but I’d say this one makes the cut!

I still plan to give the insanely “Ruby Woo” a try since it seems to be eeeeeverybody’s favorite. Is it worth the hype?
