DIY: Tulle Skirt

  • Blake
    Post by Blake

I’ve been wanting a tulle skirt (a la Carrie Bradshaw) for forever now! So consider my excitement when I came across this wonderful DIY for a tulle skirt (via ConsiderMeLovely‘s instagram) I couldn’t WAIT to give it a go.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Tulle (preferably on the spool)
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Ribbon or elastic band

I purchased my tulle from Tulle Source for $1.99 a spool. I ordered 3.

I used the elastic band from an old skirt that I no longer wear. (But you can purchase them at any fabric store.) I simply cut the fabric along the seam, removed the elastic band and then made it a more narrow band by folding it in half and then using hot glue to secure it.

I then cut the tulle into strips 52″ long.

Once you complete those steps the hard part is done. Simply take the strips (I did 2 at a time), fold them in half, loop them over the elastic band and pull the ends through the looped end.

It’s actually easier if you put the elastic band around your waist while you do it.

Once you’ve covered the entire band…you’re done!

This project costs me a total of $6 (plus shipping). Will you be trying it?

Thanks! I take all of my own photos. I don’t typically edit them. (Takes too much time that I don’t have. lol) If I do upload an edited photo it’s usually just an Instagram filter.

I am so excited to do do this project. I have done one for my daughter, but never one for myself. Thank you so much for providing the length of strips, I couldn’t find that anywhere :)

Great tutorial! Did you wear spandex shorts underbeath? How see through is it? Also, is is it possible to double the layers? If so, how? Thanks so much!
