2 for 1
This blog post is a 2-for-1 deal! (And you guys know how much I love a good deal.) I’m sharing the deets on 2 very different pairs of shoes from Vionic–booties and a pair of (gasp!)…kitten heels!
Before we get started, let’s just all agree to pretend these Blakely booties are named after me. Deal? Deal. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get into what you came for…outfit details.
I’m wearing these open toe booties with a lace top (and a flesh tone bra) and distressed jeans. I really love the mix of feminine and edgy. It’s kind of my thing.
Something unique about this particular bootie is the fact that the ankle strap buckles to the front instead of the traditional way to the back. It’s a small detail, but it’s the kind of detail that makes a shoe stand out from the rest.
To add a little color to the look, I accessorized with a small color blocked bag and bold red lip. Although the bag and my lip color aren’t the same shade, they work together because they’re both in the same color family. The blue in the bag is a great complement to denim and the overall neutral palette works well with the grey booties and fedora.
This look is great for the fickle weather as we head into fall. The sheer lace allows me to be cool during the heat of the day, but the sleeves and high neck add a little extra protection for the cooler nigh temperatures. The open toe and heel of the booties have the same function. There’s enough coverage to keep for the cooler night temperatures, but the perfect amount of ventilation during the day.
This is the kind of look I would wear to brunch with friends or a blogger event in the city. So, I can’t wait to take it out for a spin during my next special occasion.

Now, before you stone me, let me explain.
I know I’m supposed to hate kitten heels and, in general, I think it’s a great rule of thumb. But try as I might, I just can’t bring myself to hate “Josie” from Vionic.
I will be completely honest and tell you that when I first took them out of the box, I was not at all thrilled. Because…kitten heel. But once I tried them on, I had a “Wait a minute. These are actually really cute!” moment. And it’s not just me. Recently someone I follow on Twitter tweeted about how much she hates kitten heels. I responded by sending her a picture of me wearing these and she, too, had a “Wait! But cute!” moment.
I think what I like about them is how simple and polished they are. Let’s be honest, with a heel this small, it’s basically a flat for all intents and purposes. But, like, an elevated flat. (No pun intended.) Paired with a simple pair of black jeans and tshirt, it’s every day casual wear with adult sophistication.
Seriously. Am I crazy or are these actually cute?! I love the pointed toe, the v-shaped opening and the suede material. Combined it all gives the shoe a very high end designer feel.
A year or so ago, I read an article in Vogue that talked about how kitten heels were all the rage and must have shoe for the season. I swore then that I wouldn’t be caught dead in such a thing. Fast forward and here I am making a strong case for kitten heels. The moral of the story? Never say never.
